Would it be feasible and worthwhile to look deeper and in new ways than we ever could before? In what ways can new knowledge speed progress on life saving research for practical remedies?
Urgent SCIENCE Research Questions
If you think education is expensive, try ignorance! Seen on bumper stickers circa 1970 and still true.
We have a time-sensitive situation 2026. Scroll below for abstract for my presentation to symposium on sustainable materials research communities MS&T26.
Just about all filtration systems that we depend on today are made in whole or part of "synthetic novel materials"  involving "simulated fiber, electro-spun filament, and resins."
After a mere 2 decades++ of daily use and disposal of these in landfill/incineration, these and similar degrade to micro plastic, poison contaminates in water and air. Medical labs report traces accumulate in our brains and body tissues.
Oops!

A practical, affordable, time/fuel saving, eco-positive filtration system which is cradle to grave harmless in landfill exists.
We can get the detail of how and which specific variations on the a "paperclay system" mix (clay, cellulose fiber (pulp-biomass etc) and water can be mechanically and chemically engineered to target whichever viruses, microbes, bacteria (e-coli etc) microplastic and long term pollution (like PFAS, PFOS, glyphosate/pesticides, et.al.).
Would transition in part to paperclay systems in at scale manufacture lead to lower cost water treatment options? YES.
Will adoption of the approach lead to scores of new patents, new products, and opportunities for good? YES

Industries require  and seek practical ways to manufacture and deliver consistent value in the market same time reduce fuel, energy cost and time in the manufacture pipeline.
Investors and customers prefer industries who develop ways to lower air and water and carbon pollution at scale
New income streams await industries who plan to keep their loyal customer base and build trust and reliability in the function of their brands.

How fast can we transition to alternatives?
Rosette Gault: Abstract for Eco-Efficient Research Questions  MS&T fall 2026
Manufacture, firing of "paperclay products" in a water-based production system can half the fuel/energy use, and lower industrial waste and carbon PM<1 emissions between 20-50% and be harmless in landfill, etc. Some compounds/methods tolerate temperature shock without rare earth minerals and oxidation fire to <1200C.

Versatile interior dynamics adapt to design-form-function specification such as near infinite shapes/size/panels, pipes, novel assembly, wet-dry joins, cast, extrusion, crack and warp elimination, self-healing, fast dry and minimize airborne dust.

Industries producing/developing lightweight, durable water/air/plasma, filtration, propellers, mixing blades, building materials/cements, refractories, coatings, adhesives have loyal customers asking. Some agriculture, aerospace, automotive, geo- textile, bio-ceramics, medical parts are well suited. At scale, the fuel savings, reduction in pyrolysis, rebalance of ecosystems, while retain/growth of income streams is feasible goal.

Alternative remedial water treatment needed. Disposable synthetic products contribute daily to the PM2/PFAS/PFOA burden.
